Generally, we here at Ad-versed are concerned with tv commercials, but we're not above honoring a great print ad. Take this one for instance, featuring Alex "A-Rod" Rodriguez. Body by milk!!! Hah. Now that's acting.
Granted, the 1984 Apple Macintosh commercial was notable, memorable, perhaps even groundbreaking. But, seriously?! I don't know if anything in it can be described as "acting" and it doesn't really "grow the brand," unlike the Futurama ad in the same vein. See both below the fold and judge for yourself.
Honda's marketing crew actually seems to put in some good effort from time to time. I posted previously the Pilot ad with the bison; this one is older, and never really aired in its entirety in America (it's 2 minutes long):
Two things, apart from the obvious visual brilliance of the ad, make it particularly great:
1. It's real. Live. No CGI or other computer assistance whatsoever. 2. All of the pieces are actual Accord parts.
However you feel about Paris Hilton, there is absolutely no denying how hilarious her "campaign ad" after a McCain attack ad linked Obama to Hilton (because, duh, they're both "celebrities").
Best moment: "Thanks for the endorsement, white-haired dude!"
Well, in honor of election season, I'd like to do a special post for today- Michael Dukakis' birthday! While he's now remembered mainly for losing to Bush I (and for a visual gag in the Naked Gun 2 1/2 which compared him to the Hindenburg), Michael Dukakis was the first democratic presidential candidate I can remember and therefore the primordial example of good in the eternal struggle against evil. Lloyd Bentsen, riding shotgun in the Dukakis-mobile, also has a very special place in my heart...
Now that's what I want in a governor! A guy who walks around diners disrupting patrons trying to have a nice, quiet meal.
